Chinese Expandable Graphite

Expandable graphite, or expanded graphite, is a type of flexible graphite that is produced by treating high-quality natural crystalline graphite with a mixture of sulfuric acid and/or certain other oxidizing agents, which results in an intumescent form of graphite. During this process, the graphite flakes expand in volume up to 400x, allowing it to be compressed into foils and sheets, without the use of any binder or filler.

The unique properties of expandable graphite have proven to be useful in a myriad of industrial applications, including as a casting powder and exothermic agent in metallurgy, electrically conductive filler, electromagnetic pulse and radiation shielding, flame retardant additive, foundry additive, and raw material to manufacture gaskets, seals & other flexible graphite products.
